A.P. Atkinson

Part author - part borderline alcoholic caffeine-addicted failure who smells like he died in 1993.

Jack was born just as the twentieth century was fizzling out, and good riddance to it. Human society (at least this time around) had peaking and was beginning to descend into apathetic decay and all that was left was the hope that someone – anyone – might one day write a series of novels set inside the mind of an intelligent lump of masonry.

From the sporadic chaos of South-East London, circumstances congealed together into the more-or-less cohesive human form of A.P. Atkinson – for better or worse. It was a time when George Lucas was bringing us Star Wars and science-fiction was becoming as infectious as syphilis. Jack grew up with a minor lifelong obsession with the genre, absorbing Star Wars, Star Trek and then moving on to literature. When he encountered the works of Douglas Adams and Isaac Asimov, everything changed for him, and not for the better. By some miracle, he never contracted syphilis and has a certificate to prove it.

As a man who looked like the least appetising potato at the corner of a local market, and with a growing dependency on alcohol and caffeine, and a burgeoning sense of self-loathing, Jack knew that he had no choice but to become a sci-fi author. And maybe a teacher. After travelling around the world on a motorcycle on an entirely unrelated adventure, he settled down to write some of the most nonsensical, and yet keenly observed stories ever to have been imagined by a sentient brick.

Along with Seth, an oppositely, and yet oddly equally, confusing author, he forged a path towards creating a whole mess of literary fiction which includes science-fiction, horror, comedy, drama and even romance. They have written what is widely considered to be some of the most highly offensive work ever to exist in literary form as well as producing writing that is both enlightening and intelligent.

Novels

Edge

Edge is a sprawling science-fiction epic that explores the lives of a host of diverse characters living on the edge of known space. It includes both horror and comedy elements and has multiple surprises throughout to satisfy a wide audience.

This novel was co-authored and edited by our own Seth Godwynn.

Blips

The finest collection of short stories anywhere in any universe – at least any any universe not destroyed by a banana.

This work of twisted tales is connected together by a pair of disembodied entities whose job it is to save the world. They are not very good at it.
Sometimes funny, sometimes terrifying and often baffling, this creative novel is both the most fun you can have alone in a bed and also a preview to everything that Jack and Seth have ever written.

Box

Box is one of the first novels Jack ever wrote. It is set in a near-future world where the workforce has been augmented by Biotekk units, artificially intelligent machines considered androids, with electronic brains inside cloned humanoid bodies.

Told from the perspective of the inhabitants of a futuristic brothel, the story examines both what it is to be human and what humanity might lose if it gives up too many pieces of itself.

Additional content and editing by Seth Godwynn, as usual.

Rob & Dave - Serves, No Useful Purpose

Rob and Dave began their lives as characters in Jack and Seth’s ‘Edge’ and there was just no way to stop them.

Their first solo adventure, a science-fiction comedy, is widely considered to be one of the most awful, terrible, dreadful and offensive things ever published and should simply never be read by anyone ever. After reading this description, it’s recommended that you burn your computer immediately and seriously consider flushing you brain out with industrial solvent. You have been warned.

Edited, of course, by our very own Seth Godwynn, who really is just as responsible for the existence of this filth.

Hawk-Eye: Traffic

Hawk-Eye: Traffic is the first story in a sci-fi, comedy-drama trilogy. Inspired by the fun and frantic TV shows of the 1980s, this book series is a tongue-in-cheek literary work that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Although predominately penned by Jack, additional material, ideas and editing was supplied by Seth Godwynn.

Hawk-Eye: Family

The first sequel begins right after the first leaves off. Our ‘heroes’ are off discovering themselves and hoping that it all doesn’t go horribly wrong… again…

Jack and Seth deliver more of the same in a novel that follows the proper ‘sequel’ rules.

Hawk-Eye: Legacy

The final novel in the (first) Hawk-Eye trilogy sees our heroes undertake their first properly sanctioned assignment. Will it be their last?

Jack completes his first trilogy in dramatic style with a fine editing job by Seth Godwynn.

The Human Race

A website offers a share of a million dollars for anyone with a motorcycle, who can complete a challenge and solve the ultimate puzzle. What does it all mean, and how far will some people go to find out?

This novel by A.P. Atkinson is edited and checked by our own Seth Godwynn.

The Bad Place

Jack and Seth venture into the world of short horror stories and get it terribly wrong, or terribly right, depending on your point of view. The Bad Place – which is legally distinct from The Twilight Zone (we checked) – is a horror/parody/comedy that explores the popular tropes and does various awful things with them.

A-Holes

A-Holes, a novel by Jack (A.P. Atkinson) and edited by Seth Godwynn, is a keenly observed tale of teaching English in a foreign country, something both have personal experience of.

Night Shift

Night Shift is the first horror story from Edgeverse. Based on ideas put together by both A.P. Atkinson and Seth Godwyyn, this novel is written by the former and edited by the latter into something that will keep the audience interested, invested and intimidated throughout.
